The Academy of Art University Hosts its 21st Runway Show

New York fashion week is the place to be if you want to get discovered or if you’re seeking out new talent. The School of Fashion at the Academy of Art University has just held its 21st runway show. It took place at Skylight Clarkson Square and featured ten graduates from the prestigious university. The audience included many well-known names including Ms. J Alexander from America’s Next Top Model and Sara Kozlowski.

Hailun Zhou from Qing Dao, China chose to get her inspiration from photographs that she took, and it inspired her to use materials such as vinyl and PVC. Eden Slezin used vintage denim, and Dina Marie Lam from Los Angeles wanted to create pieces from soft and luxurious fabrics.

Carlos Rodriguez, from Mexico City, used embroidery to showcase the detailing on his knitwear collection. Saya Shen, from Beijing, used digital prints to recreate the illusion of trees and other natural elements in her collection. Joanna Jadallah, from Chicago, used inspiration from her ancestors to create a collection that mixed wool, lambskin leather, and knits together while Cana Klebanoff created wearable pieces that reflected Samurai armor and castles from medieval times.

Ryan Yu was born in Liaoning, China and used the contrast of light and darkness to create bold pieces for his collection. Jelly Shan created a collection that was girlish yet raw and edgy. Every designer has a different personality and brought their personal experiences and the photographs in their minds to create something truly beautiful.
