The history of the OSI Group started in 1909 when a German immigrant opened a butcher shop in Chicago. The shop became highly successful over time, making it one of the main suppliers of meat products in the region. Otto Koschowsky, the owner of the shop, wanted to supply the local community with meat products. His idea turned out to be the best thing he would have ever wished for. OSI has grown into a leading company in the region with the ability to serve a high number of people with quality food products. OSI is now ranked as the biggest food production company in the world with a high potential of supplying food products in many countries around the globe.
OSI Group McDonalds is a big company today, but its growth was influenced by the success of another company known as McDonald’s. In the mid-20th century, McDonald’s opened the first restaurant in Chicago, the same location where OSI Group, then known as Otto & Sons (named after the founder and his sons) was operating from. McDonald’s was in need of meat products, and they needed to get the supplies from meat producers in the region. The two sons of Otto were friends with the managing director of the OSI Group McDonalds at the time of formation. They broke a deal that would see Otto & Sons become one of the suppliers to the restaurants’ franchise.
OSI Group McDonalds started working together with the McDonalds, and the partnership became highly successful. The partnership brought much success for both businesses. The restaurants by McDonald’s were growing rapidly, and it was the responsibility of Otto & Sons to look for means of meeting the high demand that was coming from their client. Their business had grown out of Chicago, and they were doing supplies to far-flung regions.
Due to the level of demand coming from the OSI Group McDonalds, there was a need to develop a production plant that would deal with the supplies to the McDonald’s. It is in this respect that these companies became highly successful. They supported each other throughout the second half of the past century, and today they are among the biggest companies in the global food business.
